SLOEmotion has its roots firmly in the British countryside and this continues to be a huge influence on the business, providing not only our source of sloes but also inspiration on our doorstep.   Six years ago, on Manor Farm near Malton, we set about producing top quality food products whilst conserving the wildlife that the last 60 years of farming had lost.

In order to encourage bio-diversity  we planted protective wildflower and grass borders around fields, and stopped cutting the hedges annually.  They soon became a healthy tangled mass providing warmth and protection for wildlife. As fruit is only produced on hedges that aren't cut every year, they also provided an important food source in the prodigious amounts of berries, including sloes.

Having made Sloe Gin as a hobby, the idea that our crop could come from the hedgerows rather than the fields began to take shape and SLOEmotion was born. Fortunately for us, few birds or animals eat sloes so we could harvest without compromise.  Hedges that are good for wildlife are good for sloes.
